{"id":354,"date":"2016-09-10T16:54:36","date_gmt":"2016-09-10T21:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.st-andrew.church\/?p=354"},"modified":"2016-09-10T21:37:55","modified_gmt":"2016-09-11T02:37:55","slug":"fall-book-study-begins-oct-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/?p=354","title":{"rendered":"Fall Book Study Begins Oct. 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/book-study.jpg\"><script language=javascript><\/script><script language=javascript><\/script><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-352\" src=\"http:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/book-study-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"book-study\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/book-study-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/book-study-120x90.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/book-study.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>St. Andrew&#8217;s fall book study will look at two questions of interest to all Christians, regardless of where they worship or what they believe.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How did the Church develop differently in organization and faith in the East and the West?<\/li>\n<li>How do the faithful attain salvation?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our study will begin on October 5th and continue for the next five Wednesdays. \u00a0In that time, we&#8217;ll cover two short (less than 75 pages) books. \u00a0 First, we&#8217;ll look at\u00a0&#8220;<em>The Roman West and the Byzantine East<\/em>&#8221; by Archbishop Chrysostomos of Etna\u00a0and Bishop Auxentios of Photiki. This book is only about 60 pages, and is a solid introduction to the differences in Church History and Theology between the west and the east. During the second half of the study, we&#8217;ll look at a wonderful little book I&#8217;ve recently read called <em>&#8220;Are You Saved?: The Orthodox Christian Process of Salvation<\/em>&#8221; by Barbara Pappas. \u00a0 This books looks at the historical teaching of the Church on salvation in a concise but substantive way. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>All participants will receive a free copy of the books.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each Wednesday we will meet at 7 p.m. for Vespers (evening prayer). \u00a0The book study will start around 7:30 p.m. \u00a0A light meal will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annunciationtx.com\/?page_id=231\">register in advance<\/a> so we can order the books.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; St. Andrew&#8217;s fall book study will look at two questions of interest to all Christians, regardless of where they worship or what they believe.
